Start by looking for unusual activity on your PC, such as unexplained hard–disk activity (listen for disk sounds or watch the PC’s disk access LED) or network access. Remember that there are a lot of viruses traveling across the Internet… don’t let them get you down or affect your business. Call Mile High PC Techs today. • Do not trust anybody and do not click anything! Not even a text link, image, flash animation… only click from trusted sources.
  • Do not open emails from un-known sources — use junk mail filters to weed them out of your in-box.
  • Block images in your email client. Spam servers can log when images are received, thus verifying your email address is active.
  • Do not open attachments from spam mail or un-trusted sources. Most virus infections arrive via attachments.
  • Do not click links in email. If you must use the link, cut and paste the link directly in the browser or manually type.
  • Turn up IE security settings. Turning up the settings too high can not hurt anything.
  • Be wary of anything that promises free access. Do not assume hackers are kind.
  • Turn off pop-ups and enable only when coming from a trusted source.
  • Run a full anti-virus system scan on a regular basis.
  • Manually verify that all automated virus, spyware, and firewall updates are working properly.
